Lead Bullets Contaminated Soil at Gun Range

Whitehead E. S. assisted a gun range near San Antonio receive closure through the TCEQ Corrective Action Program.

After the gun range was decommissioned in January 2015, soil impacted with bullet fragments was excavated and transported to a private property for disposal by a previous consultant/contractor. The TCEQ was ready to close the original source area property (gun range), but because of the issues related to off-Site disposal, closure was delayed. The TCEQ requested soil and groundwater sampling of the off-Site disposal area.

Whitehead E. S. worked with the TCEQ case coordinator and senior manager to address chemicals of concern on the off-Site disposal property (soil and groundwater sampling) and develop an Affected Property Assessment Report (APAR). Whitehead E. S. completed the additional sampling, submitted the APAR, and worked with the TCEQ case manager and senior supervisor to address specific issues.

The assessment was successfully completed, and the off-Site disposal area was issued a No Further Action letter. Whitehead E. S. worked in conjunction with the original consultant for the gun range and appreciated working with the TCEQ in closing these two properties (source area and disposal property).

At Whitehead E. S., we are “locked and loaded” to assist with remediation and regulatory closure of your site!
